The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science is collaborating with private corporations, foundations, government agencies, institutions of higher education, and municipalities to create the YOUR ENERGY GENERTATION exhibit.
The energy themed exhibits will highlight effective conservation tools that are currently available to consumers including new products as well as improve awareness and understanding of renewable energy sources and encourage support for the development and expansion of renewable energy efforts in the state. It is the Brogan’s hope to instill an appreciation for the potential of alternative energies and educate citizens with how renewable energy technologies work and encourage use of renewable energy and participation in energy conservation efforts. The Brogan Museum is proud of its partnership with SUSTAINABLE TALLAHASSEE, formerly known as GREENOVATIONS. Significant exhibit space will be devoted to offering residents and visitors insight on the community’s commitment to a “greener” future. Business owners and homeowners will have the opportunity to learn about new products, incentives for efficiency and better understand the relationship to conservation and future energy costs. Currently the “mix” of energy resources is a blend that primarily includes fossil fuels, natural gas, coal, and nuclear. New and existing technologies each have what the United States Department of Energy describes as “push backs.”
As example it takes three regular light bulbs to equal the power and lifespan of a single CFL. CFL’s however, contain mercury. How we prepare for recycling the increased use of a CFL is a “push back” relating to that new technology. The Brogan hopes to address these issues and more over the next two years, beginning with the launch of the exhibit in partnership with Leon County’s 2-day energy/climate conversations with municipal leaders from all over the country. Bring your used CFL to the Brogan to be recycled and get $1 off admission. As the project develops, expect art experiences to compliment the commitment to the energy initiative. It’s part of The Brogan’s strategic plan, including ties to standardized student testing.
The YOUR ENERGY GENERATION Exhibit is sponsored by Biomass Gas and Electric, The City of Tallahassee, Progress Energy, Exxon, The American Petroleum Institute, Florida Atlantic University, and many more.
Sparks will fly, currents will be alternated, and charges will be static! This will definetly be an electrifying experience for everyone.
